BYOD software applications

It’s Monday morning, March Break is done and you’re back to the office. Are you taking your trusty iPhone with you or does the company insist you use the outdated BlackBerry it gave you three years ago? Or perhaps, you’d rather use a Mac Laptop instead of a PC. Increasingly, companies are allowing you to bring you own device (BYOD) to the office. But how do they ensure that private and/or proprietary information is kept secure? Today, there are several applications to keep the company IT department and the employee both happy. Nottingham Communications’ BYOD Report, scheduled for publication Fall 2013 will explore in depth the various types of BYOD software applications on the market and how and where they’re deployed.

Talking of BlackBerry, when, last year, all the doomsayers were writing (then) RIM’s obituary, Nottingham Communications was talking up the company’s prospects of re-birth on the strength of its new OS – BB10. Eventually, one or two investment analysts were making the same predictions. Well, this week we heard that not only had the latest device (the Z10) received glowing reviews all round, but there was news BlackBerry (RIM’s new company name) had received an order from an as yet unnamed service provider (but most likely AT&T) for one million of the smartphones. So, while it’s unlikely BlackBerry will ever regain its leadership position in the smartphone market, the odds are very good it will beat out Microsoft for third place.
